Rob's Weekly Rants, Week 8: An Abbreviated Post

Hey guys,

The meat of the posting this week was done by Peter, which is in the post below. I just have a few comments for the week itself, based on whimsy.

1) Never in the history of ever have I been ranked second in the league before...not even in the first week! Our league is clearly at a low point. You should all be ashamed.

2) Other than myself, the 4-3 teams did abysmal last week. Ryan managed just 77 points in a win, Dane hit 81, and Donel managed just 50.7. Making my life better: I get to play Donel this week! I'm pretty pumped.

3) Speaking of records, looked at the standings recently? We have four 4-3 teams and six 3-3 teams, with Kyle and Peter as the outliers at 2-5 and 6-1. Peter looks to be a good bet for the playoffs (6 wins has a very favorable playoff possibility, while seven is a guarantee in our league), but Kyle has managed to not be out yet.

4) I've been doing some analysis of the league records. Specifically, I've been observing Travis's 1517 PF in Season 2, the all-time league record. I've been tracing Peter's progress towards that number. At 13 games, that gives Travis a mindblowing 116.7 points per week. This number is truly insane, and I believed it would never be beaten.

After the Week 4 games were complete, Peter had 477.3 points, or an average of 119.3 per week. As you will recall, Peter's team played out of it's mind for a few weeks. He has since...well, not really come down to Earth. Other than his one loss, his team has been consistently about the 88-heartbreak line (See below), and as it stands, he has 764.3 points, or 109.2 points per week. He is now off Travis's record breaking pace by 52.5 points. Unless we start seeing some pretty electric numbers, I think Travis's record is safe.

More within reach? The QB 6-point TD inflated totals from Season 1 that led to 1476 and 1468 points by Scott and Peter, respectively, which translates to 113.5 and 112.9 points per game. These are still within reason. I don't believe Peter will have trouble making the leaderboard, however; the 10th place total, by me in Season 5, scored just over 100 points per game.

None of the rest of us are threatening the leaderboard; myself and Travis are second and third, respectively, in PF, with 96 and 95 points per week.

Also in the running for a record: Kim's 83 points per week is just ahead of the 10th worst, Season 4 Jason at 80 points per week. Can she do it?

5) The only other notched records over the past few weeks are all in the non-skill positions:

Chiefs D/ST: 26 points for Jason in Week 6 (Tie for 9th D/ST)
Matt Prater (Travis) and Justin Tucker (Drew), 18 points and a Tie for 7th K, both in Week 5

Until later, snitches,

Bob
